Conceived by Willy Messerschmitt in the 1930's, the Bf 109 became the backbone of the Luftwaffe fighter strength and one of the finest fighter aircraft of the Second World War. With over 30,000 aircraft manufactured during the war, the Bf 109 was also the most produced fighter aircraft in history.
