Two and a half ton trucks, manufactured by Opel (a GM® subsidiary since 1931), were some of the most popular trucks in the German Army. Chief among the reasons for this popularity was simple availability. Opel's Brandenburg facility was a brand new factory set up in 1935 with the express purpose of building trucks and those trucks, primarily, went on to the motorized divisions of the re-arming German Military.
