Highly detailed 1/700 scale assembly model kit of the USS Essex CV-9, the lead ship of U.S. Navy Essex class aircraft carriers. The Essex class aircraft carriers are the most numerous class of heavy warships of the 20th Century, with 24 ships built. Commissioned on 31 December 1942, the USS Essex served in the Pacific throughout the Second World War with great success, and she was the carrier for Air Group 15, the "Fabled Fifteen," commanded by the U.S. Navy's top ace of the war, David McCampbell (1944).
