The Opel Blitz 3-ton truck was one of the most widely used vehicles in the German armed forces during the Second World War. Its robustness and ease of maintenance were to make it into the German Army’s work-horse in both victory and defeat, and it was to make its presence felt on all fronts, used by all the branches of the German armed services. Built by the General Motors Opel factory in Brandenburg from 1938 and also by Daimler-Benz from 1943, the four-wheel drive Blitz type 6700A was found to be so reliable that more than 100 different bodies were officially recorded as being mounted on the chassis, such as ambulances, mobile repair workshops, fuel tankers, AA platform. _ Maximum speed : 80 km/h _ Motorization : 3,626 cc 6-cylinder diesel engine _ Also manufactured in large numbers, the 7.5 cm Panzerjägerkanone 40 or Pak 40 anti-tank gun entered German Army service late in 1941 to combat the heavily-armored Russian tanks. It was capable of firing 12 shots a minute and of piercing 130 mm thick armor at a distance of 1,000 metres. Although usually in wheeled form, some Pak 40 guns were mounted on several types of vehicle.
