Dragon Military 1/35 German Railway Gondola Typ Ommr w/2cm Flak 38 Gun (New Tool) Kit
Germany was extremely reliant on railway networks to move equipment, weapons and supplies across vast distances during WWII. An important type of railcar to keep equipment moving was the open goods wagon – given the nomenclature Omm. The Omm was designed from scratch in 1937-38 to carry cargo (e.g. trucks and armored vehicles) weighing up to 24.5 tons, and its load deck was 8.72m long. Construction began in 1939, with 73,850 wagons produced in three variants. One was the Ommr that had 1m-high removable sides. Some 24,735 of these were built up till 1943. A number were fitted with antiaircraft guns to defend against air attack from Allied fighters or even against ground attack in some cases. One such configuration is shown in this newest kit from Dragon, which features a pair of 2cm Flakvierling 38 cannons.
The box containing this 1/35 scale kit of the Typ Ommr with 2cm Flakvierling 38 cannons is just brimming with accessories. As well as the railcar and two complete guns, there is a section of railway track (embankment is not included). As to be expected, the wagon kit is based on Dragon’s existing railway gondola kit and the same is true of the 2cm Flakvierling 38. Indeed, the inclusion of the railway tracks allows an instant dioramic scene straight from the box.
