Sister-ship to the equally famous Bismarck, Tirpitz was commissioned into the German Navy in 1941, making them the largest and most modern warships then afloat. Tasked with patrol of Norwegian waters and attacked on numerous occasions, Tirpitz was eventually sunk on November 12, 1944 by Lancasters of the RAF, dropping specially designed ‘Tall Boy’ bombs.
The largest and most modern battleship of its time also comes with superlatives as a very sophisticated kit:

  1. Battleship Tirpitz, Altafjord, Norway, July-September 1942
